Back on Track Maths

Valerie Augustin was born in Brunei to Malaysian parents, studying Bahasa Melayu as a second language in school. After a year of secondary school in Singapore, she and her family migrated to Melbourne, Australia.

Val completed a Bachelor of Science from 1994-1997, graduating with Honours in Applied Mathematics. After working in children's theatre, customer service and writing material for Mathematics textbooks, she then completed a Graduate Diploma of Teaching in 2000. 

Val started teaching high school Mathematics in 2001.  From 2003-2005 she returned to university to complete a Bachelor of Music Performance (Orchestral Percussion). Between music classes she taught Mathematics.

Val then travelled to London, UK, to teach Mathematics for the academic year 2006-2007 while working as a freelance percussionist. She returned to Melbourne, Australia in 2007, worked in many roles, including admin and hospitality, and casual teaching.

Returning to the classroom in 2010, Val has taught in a wide variety of Victorian schools, including a four-year stint as Head of Mathematics. 

Val launched this business in November 2021.
